Sardinia 2007

The eleventh edition of the Sardinia Symposia marked the 20th Anniversary of the conference. Organised by IWWG (International Waste Working Group) and held in Forte Village, Santa Margherita di Pula, Italy from October 1st to 5th 2007, the event was attended by over 1000 delegates from approximately 80 different countries and saw the presentation of 576 scientific papers in 128 general, specialised and workshop sessions.
The 20th Anniversary edition was opened by Professor Hartmut Graßl, former Director at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, Germany, who delivered a lecture entitled ‘Global anthropogenic climate change – How large is the landfill contribution?’. This presentation reported on observed climate changes and projected global climate change, if human kind continues to use fossil fuels in the absence of a stringent climate policy, focusing also on the contribution of landfills to climate change, as recently assessed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
